The recently announced roundtable talks between the leaders of the US and North Korea at Kim Jong-un’s Pyongyang Palace took the diplomatic and political world by surprise this week.
After weeks of heated Twitter exchanges between President Trump and Kim Jong-un, the welcome announcement of a face-to-face between the two leaders was the much-needed de-escalation needed to bring the world back from the brink of a nuclear war.
The apparent softening in rhetoric from President Trump was a surprise to many, as he has carved an uncompromising persona since taking office. However, according to a leak from a White House source today, the arranged meeting was a result of a failed attempt at a restaurant booking by Mr Trump. The source claimed Mr Trump, having eaten a McDonald’s take away every day for 6 days running, wanted to “eat Asian, and I don’t mean Bangkok hookers”.
Having found the number of “Pyongyang Palace” next to the red telephone in the Oval Office, Mr Trump proceeded to book a table at what serendipitously turned out to be his international arch-rival’s official residence in North Korea.
